Teacher Eligibility Test (State / Central Level)
1) What is the TET Exam?
The TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) is a state-level or central-level qualifying examination conducted to certify candidates for teaching positions in government and aided schools.
TET ensures that candidates possess the minimum teaching aptitude, pedagogical understanding, and subject knowledge required to teach at the primary and upper-primary levels.
Clearing TET is mandatory for recruitment as a Primary Teacher (Class 1–5) or Upper Primary Teacher (Class 6–8) in India.
2) Eligibility Criteria
For Paper I (Primary Teacher – Class 1 to 5)
- Senior Secondary (12th) with 50% marks + 2-year D.El.Ed
- Senior Secondary (12th) with 50% marks + 4-year B.El.Ed
- Senior Secondary (12th) with 50% marks + 2-year Diploma in Special Education
For Paper II (Upper Primary Teacher – Class 6 to 8)
- Graduation with 50% marks + 2-year D.El.Ed
- Graduation with 50% marks + 1-year B.Ed
- Senior Secondary (12th) with 50% marks + 4-year B.El.Ed
Relaxation: 5% marks relaxation for SC / ST / OBC / PwD candidates.
Final-Year Students: Eligible to apply provisionally.
Degrees and diplomas must be recognized by UGC / NCTE / State Authorities.
